Venice
Venice or Venezia is a water city in Italy, which attracts many tourists. Venice has a small population of 270000. The City of Canals as it is called, is exactly what it sais: a water city full of canals, rivers, boats, romance, passion and amore… it is not built on land ,rather on wood piles which is inside the water! Due to the lack of oxygen, wood in the water does not decay, and it becomes like stone. So Venetians managed to built not just a few houses, but a whole city, with cathedrals, museums, Venice was a powerful city state in the past, and also a trading centre , especially for spices, grain and silk, with a very strong sailing force. Antonio Vivaldi was born and raised there, and he was given the chance to marvel, as Venice is also a very artistic city.
Transportation
Transportation as you can imagine is on water and on foot through and onto the canals. You can take a romantic boat ride with a traditional flat-bottomed boat called gondola. The boat driver, gondolier may sing, or even serve coffee! There are also the motored waterbuses called vaporetti. The best idea is to buy a weekly card for 47.5 euro which gives you the right to travel unlimited times with the vaporetti.
Sights
Although a water city Venezia is full of museums and cathedrals. Churches like St Mark’s Basilica, Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute will stun you. You can also take a walk to Piazza San Marco with its famous hundreds of pigeons, cross the Rialto Bridge and the very famous Bridge of Sighs. The city has also palaces like Doge’s palace, Palzzo Contarini del Bovolo, Palazzo Grassi, Labia, Foscari and Malipiero. Museums have many artwork to admire,. Famous museums are the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Galleria Giorgio, Museo Correr, del Ghetto and del Merletto di Burano.

Venice has inspired a lot of artists to create some of their masterpieces here. The city is a setting to many books, poems, films. The most famous of them of course is Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice. Every year Venice hosts the oldest and most popular film festival, the Venice film festival, where many respected film makers participate with their movies. Annual also is the Carnival of Venice, which is famous for the Venetian masks. The most notable person to be born in Venice is Marco Polo, the first European explorer that went to China.
Climate
Venice has a humid subtropical climate with the typical warm summers and cool winters. Nothing extreme, you wont have a problem with the weather whenever you visit Venice.
